About the
Driver
Though 35 year old Ron Blackburn was a rookie in the grand stock division last
year, he is no rookie to Langley Speedway or to racing itself. Ron has been
around racing all his life in some form or fashion. A native of Galax, VA, he
bought his first racecar at age 18. Ron raced modified dirt track for 2 years in
Elkin, NC at Friendship Speedway. In 1987 Ron came to Langley Speedway not as a
driver but as a crewmember working with numerous Grand Stock and Mini-stock
teams, before actually racing in the mini stock division himself.
Driving the number 75 car with Abilene as a major sponsor, Ron ended the 1997
racing year as 5th in the points standing and 2 wins. In the 1998 season he
showed improvement by ending with 3rd in the points standing, 1 win and 18 top 5
finishes. He was also voted by the fans as the 1998 best appearing team.
A combination of events and factors lead to Ron creating RJS Motorsports and in
turn becoming a rookie in the grand stock division. Ron's desire to always
improve upon his current status and climb another step up the ladder; Langley
Speedway's decision to do away with the mini stock division; and Ron's last race
of the 1998 season ending in a fiery crash that totaled the dodge avenger all
were key rolls in his decision. Ron's uncanny ability to always look ahead to
the future enabled him to grasp this opportunity and jump into the grand stock.
He has a strong commitment to success and winning and is currently ranked number
12 in the points standing. He has had two top ten finishes at this early stage
of the racing season with the promise and determination for much more excitement
and improvement to come.
RJS Motor Sports have an excellent crew. The crew shares Ron's goals and
commitment to success, always working hard for each other and their sponsors.
They are 100% dedicated to winning and are striving to be the best and will go
as far as their resources allow.
RJS Motorsports is always looking for individual or corporate sponsors to help
the team achieve their goals. Ron has excellent leadership and supervisory
qualities, which is proven not only at the racetrack but also through his 12
years with Cannon VA, Inc. He is neat and clean in appearance and has incredible
communication skills. Ron Blackburn would represent your company in an honest
and professional manner at all times, both on and off the track.
We are very thankful and appreciative of the help from all our sponsors. RJS
Motor Sports wants you to know that without you, we wouldn’t be here. A
special thanks to each of you!
