Clower Tribute Provides Added Incentive for Ashton Lewis This Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 6) – Ashton Lewis Jr. and the Lewis Motorsports team did not let their impressive effort at Darlington Raceway three weeks ago go to their heads. The team put extra effort into its preparation for Saturday’s BellSouth Mobility 320 at Nashville Speedway U.S.A.

They have added incentive for a strong performance because the team will be honoring late country comedian Jerry Clower with a special paint scheme. The car will carry images of opossums, raccoons, coon dogs and frogs, which were the center of many of Clower’s light-hearted stories of country living. (Full Release)

(March 31, 2000) - Lewis Motorsports, which has been combing the countryside as part of an effort to find new driving talent, has found a new prospect in the deep South and will give its new protégé seat time in the NASCAR Busch Series BellSouth Mobility 320 on April 8 at Nashville Speedway U.S.A. in Tennessee. (Full Release)

Ashton Lewis Gives Team Effort a B+

DARLINGTON, S.C. (March 20) – With a little more than 20 laps to go in Saturday’s SunCom 200, Ashton Lewis thought that he had tamed “The Lady in Black;” but on lap 128 of 147, Lewis was bumped from behind, and he hit the turn-four wall, ending his hopes of a top-20 finish. (Full Release)

Stakes are High for Ashton Lewis Jr.

DARLINGTON, S.C. (March 15, 2000) – If you asked NASCAR Busch Series driver Ashton Lewis Jr. if his scheduled three-race layoff was enough time to prepare for Saturday’s Suncom 200 at Darlington Raceway, he would probably ask for three more weeks, considering the stakes. (Full Release)

Lewis Motorsports Honors Country Legend Jerry Clower

CONCORD, N.C. (Feb. 8) -- Lewis Motorsports crew chief Charlie Lewis is paying homage to his favorite comedian, Jerry Clower, throughout the upcoming NASCAR Busch Series season with a special decal on the team’s No. 46 Chevrolet.

During Clower’s famous storytelling sessions, he wore a patch with a raccoon emblazoned on his red tuxedo. The team is carrying a white decal of the raccoon on the dashboard of the Lewis Motorsports Chevrolet in each of the team’s scheduled 20 races. (Full release)

Year One of Lewis Motorsports Is Picking Up Intensity

CONCORD, N.C. (Jan. 20) – Despite its plan to run only 19 races in the 2000 season, Lewis Motorsports is working around the clock to prepare for the NASCAR Busch Series season-opening race on Feb. 19 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.

January is a busy month for any NASCAR team, but it is especially busy for a new team like Lewis Motorsports. The team was formed last fall, and it has been full-steam ahead since day one. (Full release)

Ashton Lewis Quietly Making the Move From Open-Wheel Racing to NASCAR

CONCORD, N.C. (Dec. 20) – Making the move from open-wheel racing to NASCAR can be difficult at best, but NASCAR Busch Series driver Ashton Lewis Jr. is approaching the transition from an educational standpoint, continuing to master the nuances of stock cars.

Next season Lewis will compete in at least 15 events on the NASCAR Busch Series schedule for the newly formed Lewis Motorsports, but before stock cars became Lewis’ passion, he was an accomplished open-wheel driver. (Full release)

Ashton Lewis: Student of the Sport Trying to Make the Grade

CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 16) – Suppose that a member of a NASCAR Busch Series team earned a four-year degree in mechanical engineering, and for his senior project he built a car that won six races and five pole positions in one season in the NASCAR Winston Racing Series.

Most people would guess that this individual works as a chassis specialist or an engineer for the race team. But this story is about NASCAR Busch Series driver Ashton Lewis Jr., and he is the one that built a late model stock car for his senior project at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., and took it to victory lane multiple times in 1997. (Full release)

Lewis Motorsports Announces Plans for 2000

CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 21) -- Norfolk, Va.-area businessman W. Ashton Lewis and his sons, Ashton Lewis Jr. and Charlie Lewis, have formed Lewis Motorsports and will compete in 15 NASCAR Busch Series events on the 2000 schedule.
